Do you love Shakespeare? Join my online Shakespeare reading group!

ETA: 5/25/2022 As the pandemic has wound down, and actors are returning to work, we have found, more and more, that everyone’s availability for readings has become increasingly scarce. So as of today, this group is indefinitely on hiatus. HOWEVER. That’s not to say we won’t be scheduling the occasional reads. So if you are interested, please email us here, and we will add you to our correspondence list!

“Shakespeare Sponge” is an online Shakespeare reading group, that I co-host. We read full-length Shakespeare plays (Folger edition) on Zoom, with all of the parts divided among six actors, for each session. Each session usually lasts about 3 hours. It’s a great way to delve into the vibrant world of The Bard, and develop your skills as a Shakespearean actor.

The details:

We chose the name “Shakespeare Sponge”, after one of our regular participants said they were soaking up knowledge “like a sponge”. We thought this was funny and apt, so we kept it in the name!

We welcome interested actors of all levels! We don’t record the sessions, and Shakespeare Sponge is a very welcoming and nurturing space. Try out your accent work, or your character voices. We have people that sing, or even dress up in costumes (totally optional!) We are gender-neutral – we don’t worry about traditional assignments of male or female roles.

Shakespeare Sponge charges a nominal fee of $5 per session, that goes towards maintaining our premium Zoom account, as well as other admin expenses. Each session usually runs about 3 hours.

If you’re interested in participating in a reading, we ask that you send an email, introducing yourself, and let us know your Shakespeare experience. Again, beginners are welcomed and encouraged! We have actors of all ages and experience from around the world that join us and read, and we always have a great time!
